-Reading (LA1)

“Plot”  is what happens in a story.  Most plots have 4 parts:

1. basic situation (AKA exposition)

Who are the characters?

What is the conflict?  Is it internal (a struggle within the characters mind) or external (a struggle with someone or something else)?

Is there any foreshadowing? (Where the author hints at things that will happen)

2. series of events (AKA complications or rising action)

Is there suspense here?

There are usually several events that lead up to the moment.

3. climax

The most exciting part.  This is when you can’t put the book down!

4. resolution

How it gets resolved, or wrapped up.

Sometimes this is a cliff-hanger.
