-Reading Comprehension (LA1 & 2)
Mrs. Sowders’ mantra: “READING is THINKING!”
By 7th grade, most students can read words, but that does not mean they are comprehending what they read.
Students will work on visualizing, interacting with the text, predicting, constructing meaning, applying their existing knowledge, and monitoring their own comprehension, in addition to learning numerous strategies for better comprehension. We will work on phonetic skills, sight words, fluency, spelling, and increasing background knowledge. Students will also be taught various cognitive strategies for more difficult text.
